Slovakia is the most spectacular country in the heart of Europe, full of myths, legends, castles and beautiful rugged mountains. Visit Slovakia and walk through green woods of Slovak mountains, swim in crystal clear waters of Slovak lakes, visit historic towns (Levoca, Banska Stiavnica, Kosice, Bratislava), castles and castle ruins which show us, that nothing lasts forever. The most famous and the highest natural resort is the High Tatras mountains, others are the Low Tatras, Fatra, Slovak paradise etc. The lowlands of the Danube plain provide a fertile farming region. Slovakia became an independent state in January 1993 after Czechoslovakia peacefully split into its two constituent parts. The Slovak Republic became a member state of the European Union and NATO in May 2004.
